How is the Tung Buddy™ better than other tungsten containers on the market?

The Tung Buddy™ is smartly designed to flow with the way welders actually work.

Open the red end and drop your used tungsten in, snap the lid shut.
Flip it over, open the green end, tip out a sharp tungsten, snap the lid shut — done. No mixed tungstens.

Red for stop. Green for go. A simple colour system recognised and understood worldwide.

As you tip the Tung Buddy™ up to slide the tungsten out, you can also quickly monitor how many sharp electrodes you have left at a glance.

The lids are captive to the body, so you won’t lose or drop them.

The compact size is designed to sit comfortably in your pocket all day — not too big, not too small.

The Tung Buddy™ is equally at home in your pocket, tool bag, welding trolley, or sitting on your workbench. Take your Buddy anywhere!

No loose caps. No mixing clean and contaminated tungsten. No digging around in your pockets or toolbox. Just a simple, fast system designed for everyday workshop and site use.

What if I’m colour blind and mix up the red and green ends?

Mate, sorry to hear!

No stress — the pocket clip sits closest to the green end, so that can be your reference point. Once you know the clip side is the “go” side, you’re sorted.

How many tungstens will it hold?

The Nylon Tung Buddy™ capacity depends on the tungsten size you’re using.

  • 2.4mm tungsten: Holds up to 19 electrodes in one compartment
  • 1.6mm tungsten: Holds more
  • 3.2mm tungsten: Holds fewer due to the larger diameter

I dropped my Tung Buddy™ in oil, dust, or sand. How do I remove the lids for a full clean?

Rotate the lid to the exact halfway position between open and closed, then apply firm pressure to pull the lid off the body.

Once cleaned and ready to reassemble, make sure the lid orientation is correct. The lid can easily be fitted 180 degrees out, which will cause it to lock open instead of closed.

To avoid this, line up the two small assembly marks on the cap with the matching marks on the body, then carefully press the lid back into place.

What about different tungsten types getting mixed up?

Simple — keep a separate Tung Buddy™ for each tungsten type.

In reality, most welders only need two tungsten types to cover the majority of work:

  • Thoriated tungsten for DC welding
  • Zirconiated tungsten for AC/DC work

If you want to run a full range of specialty tungstens, that’s completely up to you — just dedicate a Tung Buddy™ to each type and keep everything organised.

A lot of welders will also simply write the tungsten type on the green end with a paint marker if they’re running multiple setups.

Will my Tung Buddy™ melt if I put a hot tungsten in it?

The Tung Buddy™ is made from durable nylon and can handle some serious heat.

Ideally, if the tungsten is still hot enough to burn through your gloves, give it about 5 seconds to cool down before dropping it in. Tungsten cools very quickly in normal workshop conditions.
